Watercolor free-motion quilting is a wonderful way to learn how to free-motion quilt. You may paint your own design on fabric to create a “coloring book” from which to practice and play. In order to achieve loose watercolor effects, Ashley Nickels follows a meditative process of painting on fabric with fabric dye, then outlining the brush strokes with contrasting stitches.
Following a pre-painted design is possible, or the fabric may be used to create new designs and shapes as you go.
