Review and giveaway: Threads of Hope

November 5, 2014 by Scarlett Burroughs

Threads of Hope

Disclaimer: I was given a copy of this book by the publisher to review. But as always, all opinions expressed here are 100 % my own, or those of my guest reviewer.

I have a treat for you today. I asked fellow quilter, Cindy, to read Threads of Hope and to share her thoughts about it with Craft Gossip readers. She quilts with the group, Kingdom Quilters, located in central Arkansas. She is a prolific quilter, and like so many quilters, gives many to charities.

Review: Threads of Hope by Christa Allan

Threads of Hope by Christa Allan touched on areas that affect many people from making a career choice to developing a relationship to celebrating the life of someone you love and have lost. Nina O’Malley, our main character, travels many different roads and ends up somewhere she didn’t think she would be with someone she had never considered. While Nina wants to grow her career as a writer, she is also dealing with the end of a relationship and learning secrets meant to protect her, but in the end open her up for a new life.

This book keeps things light, but still focuses on some emotional areas. We read of the lost friends and family members due to an illness that has no cure. We learn of strength and love that surpasses death. The focus on AIDS and its impact on the innocent is a backdrop that allows Nina to learn about herself in the present, heal from the past, and become excited about her future.

The different characters in the story – a best friend, a demanding boss, and someone from those awful high school days – give us the opportunity to see Nina from different points of view. Although Nina doesn’t need permission to live her life, at times talking something out does give you a new perspective on your decisions. This is what Aretha does for Nina – she is a true best friend; someone who shares the truth with you while loving you through the good times and bad times. Nina’s boss, Elise, challenges Nina to take on a new assignment, stretching Nina out of her comfort zone.

This challenge becomes a life-changing moment for Nina and takes her on a path into a future she hadn’t considered. That future contained a man she never thought would be someone in her life, not after the way he treated her in high school. Funny how life can take you on those twists and turns, valleys and mountains and sometimes take you in a direction completely opposite of where you thought you wanted to head.

This is an enjoyable, easy reading book. It keeps your attention and ties you up with the characters. I highly recommend this as something to be read while lying on a beach, on that next flight, or a lazy afternoon. I hope you, too, will enjoy following Nina and learning more about yourself.

Thanks Cindy for such a thorough review. Threads of Hope is definitely going to be my next read. Now, it’s time for the giveaway.

Oh my goodness I live in Central Arkansas! It would be so cool to read this book!

So far as books on the nightstand go, I have 4 actual books, thousands on my Kindle because I can get free books from Amazon for Kindle, and then I have 2 local library accounts I borrow e-books from constantly. Also, I have a Scribd account that has I don’t know how many books on it. I read a book every single day!

What an awesome book! I always have at least three I’m reading at all times: one in the bathroom, one in the car and of course the pile by the bedside. Those on my nightstand waiting to be read? Three right now but I just bought 5 more from the local library’s fundraising table! I could never switch to a Kindle or other reading tablet – I enjoy turning pages and the feel of the book in my hands too much!

Hard copy books waiting to be read …more than 20. That does not include all the books in Kindle. I read one or two books a week.
