Charlotte’s Scrappy Blue Quilt kit

January 25, 2010 by Scarlett Burroughs

Skip the hassle of applique with this simple to make scrappy quilt created by Debbie Beaves. The blocks and borders are from a pre-printed panel. I love the color combination. This charming kit is available to buy at Bayside Quilting.

Editor’s Note March 04, 2011: Bayside Quilting no longer carries this kit so if you really want to find this particular one, you might try searching eBay. If you want to see other quilt patterns by Debbie Beaves I found several cute ones on the RJR Fabrics website under Free Designers Patterns.

New Release: Denim & Daisy Fabric by Lori Holt

If you love Lori Holt’s cheerful vintage style, her new Denim & Daisy fabric collection for Riley Blake Designs is going to be very difficult to resist.

Denim & Daisy combines classic blue, cream and daisy-inspired prints with the nostalgic farmhouse look Lori Holt does so well. It feels fresh and summery, but the deeper denim shades give it enough warmth to work beautifully in quilts used all year round.

You can view and preorder the Denim & Daisy collection here.

What Is Included in the Collection?

The Denim & Daisy range includes 21 coordinating prints, available as yardage and in several precut fabric options:

  • Fat quarter bundle with 21 fat quarters
  • Half-yard bundle with 21 cuts
  • One-yard bundle with 21 cuts
  • 5-inch Stacker with 42 squares
  • 10-inch Stacker with 42 squares
  • 2½-inch Rolie Polie with 40 strips
  • Jolly Bar with 42 pieces measuring 5 × 10 inches

There are also 108-inch-wide backing fabrics available in Farmer’s Almanac, Prairie Flower and Wallpaper designs. Wide backing is one of those little quilting luxuries you do not fully appreciate until you realise you can finish a quilt without wrestling three long backing panels through the sewing machine.

If you are unsure which bundle suits your project, our guide to the five main types of precut quilting fabrics explains the difference between charm packs, jelly rolls, layer cakes and fat quarters.

New Denim & Daisy Quilt Kits

Fat Quarter Shop is also releasing several quilt kits featuring the collection, including:

  • Birdsong Quilt Kit
  • Bloom and Grow Quilt Kit
  • Charmed Topper or Baby Quilt Kit
  • Daisy Chain Quilt Kit
  • Fresh as a Daisy Quilt Kit
  • Sweet Golden Pears Quilt Kit
  • Blue Skies Quilt Kit

There is a lovely mixture of bed quilts, lap quilts, baby quilts and smaller projects, so you do not need to commit to an enormous heirloom quilt just to enjoy the fabrics.

The Blue Skies kit is especially appealing if you want an approachable precut-friendly project, while Birdsong and Fresh as a Daisy offer larger statement quilts for anyone ready to settle in for some serious sewing.

Why I Love This Collection

The strength of Denim & Daisy is how easily the fabrics work together. The blue and cream palette keeps everything cohesive, while the floral and vintage-inspired prints add enough personality to stop a quilt from feeling too carefully matched.

It would be beautiful for farmhouse quilts, picnic blankets, table runners, tote bags, cushion covers and quilted jackets. The smaller prints should also work well for patchwork blocks where large designs can sometimes disappear into the seams.

Precuts would be an easy place to start, especially if you want to spend more time sewing and less time standing at the cutting table debating whether two blues really match. For more ideas, have a look at our weekly precut quilting inspiration or these beginner-friendly quilt layouts.

Denim & Daisy yardage is expected to begin shipping in October 2026, with selected kits and coordinating products arriving between September and November. Reservation fees and release dates vary between products, so check the individual listing before ordering.
