Hawaiian quilts, which date back to the impact of nineteenth-century missionaries, are more than just functional artifacts. They are a type of creative expression that elegantly reflects not only the soul of a people, but also their culture and surroundings.
Elizabeth Root has created 20 Hawaiian quilt blocks. The designs are cut in one piece and appliqued to a contrasting color background cloth, which is unique in construction and typical of Hawaiian quilt themes. The motifs for the 18-inch squares in this lovely collection are titled after the rich and exotic tropical vegetation.
