So, have you ever heard of casserole trivets? They’re these handy little mats or pads that are designed to protect your table or countertop from the heat of hot dishes, especially casseroles. They come in different shapes and sizes, so you can find one that fits your casserole dish perfectly.
Basically, casserole trivets are made from heat-resistant materials like silicone, cork, or wood, so they won’t melt or warp under high temperatures. You can use them to prevent damage to your furniture, and also to make sure that your casserole dish stays stable and level.
If you’re serving food at a dinner party or potluck, casserole trivets are especially helpful because they let you put hot dishes on the table without worrying about causing any damage.

How do you make one?
It is rather simple. These instructions give you a basic idea, but you can also see the video afterwards.
Materials:
- Cork or silicone sheets (can be found at craft or home goods stores)
- Scissors
- Pencil or marker
- Ruler or straight edge
- Hot glue gun
Instructions:
- Measure and mark the size and shape of your trivet on the cork or silicone sheet using a pencil or marker and a ruler or straight edge.
- Cut out the trivet shape with scissors.
- If using cork, you may want to seal the edges with clear nail polish to prevent fraying.
- Heat up the hot glue gun and apply glue to the bottom of the trivet in a zigzag pattern.
- Press the trivet onto a flat surface, such as a table or countertop, to flatten it out and help the glue adhere.
- Let the trivet dry for a few minutes before using.

Any precautions to take?
As with any craft you should be take the basic precautions.
- Watch your fingers when you’re cutting and be careful not to burn yourself with the hot glue gun.
- Make sure you measure the size of your casserole dish correctly so your trivet will fit nicely.
- If you’re using cork, you might want to put some clear nail polish around the edges to keep it from fraying.
- When you’re pressing the trivet down onto a flat surface, don’t press too hard or you might mess up the shape.
- Let the hot glue dry completely before you start using your trivet. Otherwise, it might fall apart and you’ll have a mess on your hands.
