Active bloggers at some point must concern themselves with secure surfing. Once the ‘what came with my computer’ McAfee subscription ran out, I began using free PC security software. But, is it enough?
I searched the Web, naturally, for answers. Of the commercial variety, PC Magazine gave top honors to Norton Internet Security. A recent review from Consumer Reports, as reported by CIO online, looked at both commercial and free software. They awarded their Best Buy logo to FREE offerings – Avira’s AntiVir, Windows Defender, and Spamfighter. According to Gregg Keizer who penned the article at CIO, Consumer Reports said these three used together offer the best combination of performance and price.

Since I visit a huge number of blogs daily, and so many have a lot of extraneous scripts running, I have opted to use FireFox with the NoScripts add on. This lets you choose which scripts you will allow to run when you visit a website.
This has two advantages. If someone adds a script to their blog with malicious code embedded (often without the knowledge of the blogger), you can block it. Second, your blogs will load much faster without all of the scripts so many bloggers seem to feel necessary on their website, especially audio, video, and slide shows that take forever to load.

Jodith,
Thanks for sharing the way you deal with not only viruses, but performance.
