Amanda (Mandy) Leins put a novel twist on a quilt book when she dug into her love of the past and mixed it with modern patterns. Wanderlust Quilts, by C&T Publishing, has 10 projects from easy-to-sew pillows to moderate and more complex quilts. All are informed by what she saw studying abroad for a PhD. in classical archaeology. Each creation in the book sits alongside the ancient image that inspired it.
The cover quilt, “Flowing Fabric”, “Eggs and Darts”, and “Aqueducts” are the ones I would tackle first, though all are worthy of your time. Each project is visually beautiful. Instructions are clear. All make you want to strike out on your own creatively.
