Plant Lovers, This DIY Pillow Project Is for You

May 22, 2025 by Shellie Wilson

If you’re anything like me, your plant collection isn’t just a hobby — it’s a full-on personality trait. From succulents to monsteras, there’s something special about surrounding yourself with leafy greens. So when I saw the Plant Love Pillow tutorial from Thermoweb, I knew I had to share it with my fellow plant enthusiasts and crafty souls.

This adorable pillow is the perfect way to combine two loves: plants and handmade home decor. The project features a playful applique design with a sweet potted plant and the words “plant love” stitched right in. It’s cheerful, modern, and adds a lovely handmade touch to any plant-filled space — whether it’s your living room, bedroom, or craft nook.

Why I Love This Project

First off, it’s beginner-friendly. You don’t have to be an expert sewist to make this project come to life. Thermoweb’s tutorial walks you through every step, using their HeatnBond products for the applique, plus Deco Foil for a little bit of shimmer (and who doesn’t love a touch of sparkle on their throw pillows?).

You can totally customize the fabrics to match your own aesthetic — think cozy neutrals, bold jungle vibes, or even quirky pops of color. Plus, the project doesn’t require a huge time investment, so you can start and finish it over a weekend.

A Great Gift for Plant Parents

This pillow would also make an amazing handmade gift. Whether for a birthday, housewarming, or even Mother’s Day, it’s a thoughtful, unique way to say “I get you” to the plant-obsessed person in your life. You could even personalize it with their favorite plant type or add some embroidered initials.

Ready to Make Your Own?

If your plant babies need some equally adorable decor to live alongside, this pillow is the perfect weekend project. Cozy, crafty, and full of leafy charm, it’s sure to become a favorite piece in your home.
