Minna Block Paper Piecing Online Class

February 21, by Shellie Wilson. Leave a Comment

If you’re a quilter looking for a fun and unique project, why not try your hand at creating a lovely, layered block using a combination of paper piecing and appliqué techniques? This approach allows you to create colourful blooms with beautiful curves and layers, resulting in a stunning and modern quilt design.

To get started, you’ll need to choose your fabrics and prepare your pattern pieces. Modern quilter Carolyn Friedlander recommends using a mix of bright, bold colours and softer, more subtle shades to create a dynamic and interesting effect. You’ll also need to create your paper piecing pattern, which will serve as the background layer for your block.

Once you have your pattern and fabrics ready, it’s time to start piecing. Begin by paper piecing your background layer, carefully following the pattern and using your chosen fabrics to create a beautiful and colourful base. Then, once you’ve finished piecing, carefully remove the paper to reveal your completed block.

Next, it’s time to add the curved flower petals using the appliqué technique. This involves cutting your fabric into curved shapes, then carefully positioning and sewing them onto your block. As you work, be sure to pay close attention to your curves and angles, as well as your colour choices, to create a cohesive and beautiful design.

Throughout the process, be sure to take your time and enjoy the creative process. Experiment with different fabrics and colours, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes – they can often lead to beautiful and unexpected results. And when you’re finished, step back and admire your stunning, layered block, which is sure to be a beautiful addition to any quilt or sewing project.

Overall, combining paper piecing and appliqué techniques is a fun and rewarding way to create beautiful and modern quilt designs. With a little creativity and patience, you can create stunning and unique pieces that reflect your own personal style and vision.

. Modern quilter Carolyn Friedlander demonstrates how to paper piece a background layer, then remove the paper, and then applique curved flower petals on top.

Sew a Color Wheel Quilted Pillow

Sew a Color Wheel Quilted Pillow is a sewing project. It involves creating a decorative pillow using a color wheel design made up of different colored fabrics.

The project requires basic sewing skills and knowledge of quilting techniques such as piecing, quilting, and binding. The end result is a colorful and eye-catching pillow that can be used to decorate a bed, sofa, or chair.

If you want one for yourself, then look no further than this dazzling color wheel pillow to freshen up and brighten your living space in a flash. This quilter and expert sewist Leslie Schucker made this pillow to feature the EZ Quilting Fat Cat template, which makes cutting your fabric shapes a breeze.

She’ll demonstrate piecing your color wheel together and lightly quilting your pillow top.

You’ll also learn how to sew your own envelope pillowcase. You can create as many unique color wheel pillows as you like using fabrics from your stash.

By using a variety of fabrics, all of your pillows can be equally unique.  Online Class Tutorial
