Holly and Ivy Quilt Kit

October 26, by Claudia Porter. Leave a Comment

I don’t know about you, but I can spend hours in a quilt shop trying to pick out fabrics for a new quilt.  Sometimes I just want a quilt that I can put together without having to purchase all of the fabric and the pattern separately.  That is why quilt kits are so handy.  For one price the buyer gets the pattern and most of the fabric needed.

If you are looking for a quilt kit for some holiday sewing, then this lovely Holly and Ivy quilt kit from the Fat Quarter Shop is perfect.

The pattern is by It’s Sew Emma and the fabric line is Christmas Figs II by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda Fabrics.  It is an intermediate skill level design, and the finished quilt measures 82.5″ x 82.5″.  You do need to purchase the backing separately, but the website tells you how much you are going to need.

The design is slightly reminiscent of the Burgoyne Surrounded pattern, a classic design which has been popular for many years.

Bring a bit of Christmas cheer into your homes without having to plan and design a quilt yourself.

Kimberly made her Jelly Roll Scrap Quilt with 13 additional Jelly Roll strips left over from another quilt, as well as extra background.  Check out her starching skills, you can also DIY and make your own spray starch for quilting.

1. Mix 1 1/2 tbsp cornstarch with 2 cups of distilled water until all lumps are dissolved.
2.  Fill a glass spray bottle.

Enjoy a brief quilting time lapse of Kimberly constructing the quilt after watching a basic block instruction with additional Jelly Roll strips!
