This monograph written by author Pierre Dos Utt bears the acronym of a saying most of us have heard our whole lives, “There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch”. And this was my first thought upon reading an email notification I got from Pinterest June 29, with the subject line: Update to our Privacy Policy. Here’s how it starts:
Hi there,
Soon, we’ll launch buyable Pins to U.S. Pinners on iPhone and iPad. Today, we’re rolling out a few updates to our Privacy Policy to help you understand how these buyable Pins will work.
What do you think about this? Click the link below to read more about Buying on Pinterest.

At first I thought they meant we were going to have to pay to pin things! I completely misunderstood! There is actually an app that already exists that is exactly this. It’s called Keep. Basically it’s a shopping app + Pinterest combined. So, it only makes sense that Pinterest would finally incorporate shopping into their app. I will probably never use it, since most of my pins are craft projects and recipes. But it’s a neat idea.

I think maybe you misunderstood as well. Lol Pinterest is still going to be free, but now you’ll be able to shop through the app. 🙂

Hi Meg,
I agree, this is the next logical step for Pinterest. Yes, pinning will still be free, as I understand it. We will just see more targeted ads. That’s what I meant by nothing is free. 🙂 I don’t really mind because someone has to pay the bills. (employees, equipment, like servers, etc.) –Scarlett
