Sew, life is good in the quilty-verse. Erin, of Why Not Sew, shows off her first creation for the Bella Skill Builder QAL hosted by the fat quarterShop. February 1 they published the first quilt block pattern. It’s totally free to download for personal use.
Now, if you are new to quilting, using all solids in your first quilt is a good choice. For starters, solid cottons are less expensive, by around $4.00 per yard, than their prints counterparts. Another is solids simplify the palette so visually your quilt has a greater than average chance of being successful. Have you ever taken a regular color photo with a lot of background clutter and thrown a black and white filter on it? It removes the distractions, just like solids will in a quilt. And lastly, you will be working with color, but in a simplified form so that it’s not overwhelming.
Whether you’re a newbie or experienced piecer, making a quilt from solids is a great skill-building exercise. So, don’t miss this one.
