I’ve never heard of a museum having a public event for turning their quilts. But that’s exactly what the Birmingham Historical Museum is doing. Brilliant idea – treat quilters to some quilts and raise money at the same time. Announcement from City of Birmingham states:
Sunday, January 22, 2012, 1 pm – 4 pm Bring your antique quilt for expert feedback with Beth Donaldson from Michigan State University Museum, who will present a program on historic quilts and their design. Enjoy a banquet-style tea at the museum, and participate in a rare opportunity to view and “turn” quilts from our collection. But, most of all, each ticket holder will have one chance at a fabulous door prize–a 58 X 67 vintage fabric quilt in the Variable Star pattern, with a hand quilted top made by museum volunteers! Hurry; tickets are $50, and registration is very limited for this unique event at the museum.
If you are in the Birmingham, Michigan area and can go, you should for a unique experience. Thanks goes to Beth Donaldson: Quilt Doctor for getting the word out about this on her blog.
