Looking for a quilt block for Hanukkah? I’ll be honest, they are not that easy to find, but I was able to spot this lovely dreidel pattern. If you are wondering what a dreidel is, it is a spinning top that is used when playing games during Hanukkah. There is Hebrew lettering on all four sides and people take turns spinning it. There are certain actions depending on what letter the player gets. It’s lots of fun for kids (and adults) of all ages!
Designed by Debby Kratovil Quilts, this block combines appliqué and piecing, so it’s the best of both worlds for quilters. When finished, it measures 10″ square. Along with standard quilting supplies, you will need fusible interfacing. There are a few steps to achieve the geometric design, but not to worry, Debby’s tutorial takes you through each step of the process.
At the end of her blog post there is a photo of the block done in three different blue and white fabrics. It’s a great way to see how different fabrics work with this eye catching block.
I can picture an entire dreidel quilt made with in all sorts of colors. What a fun quilt that would be!
