One of the things that I love when fabric designers come out with a new line is that they often release a couple of free patterns. These designs are meant as a showcase for their new fabric, and are an awesome resource for people that are looking for a new pattern, but may not want to spend a lot of money on one.
This pattern, entitled Glad Tidings and designed by Jo Morton for Moda Fabrics, is one of these free ones, and it caught my eye immediately. The holiday fabric used for it is a lovely subtle combination of red, greens and gold. The geometric design is stunning, and the way Jo makes it look like some of the strips are woven is eye-catching. She doesn’t stop the with the center section either. The border is pieced and forms a lattice look around the middle. Stunning!
The finished quilt measures 70″ x 70″ and is an intermediate level pattern. It is noted that precision piecing is required so that the outside lattice is effective. Twelve fabrics were used for the example. In addition, the pattern indicates that a 15″ and 10 1/2″ square rulers are needed.
