Scrap fabric yo-yos are a great way to make use of fabric scraps and create a unique yo yo quilt. Not only are they fun to make, but they also add a whimsical touch to any quilt design. Making fabric yo-yos is a simple process and can be done with minimal supplies. Here’s how you can make your own scrap fabric yo-yos for quilting.

Start by gathering your supplies. You’ll need fabric scraps, a pair of scissors, a needle and thread, and a few sewing pins. It’s best to use lightweight fabrics for yo-yos, such as cotton, muslin, or flannel.

Next, cut your fabric into circular shapes. You can make them any size you want, but the larger the yo-yo, the more fabric you’ll need. Make sure to leave at least a quarter inch of fabric around the outside of the circle.

Once your fabric circles are cut, thread your needle and begin hand-stitching them together. Start at the center of the circle, and work your way around the edge. Make sure to keep your stitching tight and even. When you reach the end, pull the thread tight to create the yo-yo shape.

To finish, secure the end of the thread with a few stitches and then snip the thread. You can also add a drop of glue on the back side of the yo-yo to help keep it secure.

Repeat this process until you have as many fabric yo-yos as you need for your quilt. Once you have enough, you can begin arranging them in a pattern of your choice. You can also add buttons or other embellishments to make your yo-yos even more unique.

Creating scrap fabric yo-yos is a great way to add a one-of-a-kind touch to your quilts. With a few basic supplies and a little bit of time, you can make your own fabric yo-yos and make your quilts stand out.
