14 Nautical and Beach Quilt Patterns for Seaside Stitching

April 28, 2026 by Shellie Wilson

There’s something about nautical quilts that feels like a little holiday in fabric form. Sailboats, beach huts, whales, sea glass colours, lighthouses, and wavey coastal prints all have that breezy, summer-house charm that works just as well in a guest room as it does in a child’s bedroom or a relaxed living space.

This is also one of those quilting themes that gives you a lot of room to play. You can go classic red, white, and blue with proper seaside nostalgia, or lean softer with sandy neutrals, washed aqua, coral, and seafoam. And if you like mixing practical patchwork with a bit of novelty, this category is packed with quilts that feel cheerful without looking childish.

I’ve mixed free patterns, paid patterns, and Etsy finds here so there’s a better spread of styles and price points. I’ve also included a few natural internal reads from CraftGossip for anyone who wants to keep the coastal theme rolling, including 40 Fish Quilt and Block Patterns, Mermaid Underwater Puzzle Throw Quilt Pattern, and 10 Travel Themed Quilt Patterns.

Nautical Stars

This one has that classic coastal Americana feel with sailboats, lighthouses, and seagulls worked into star blocks. It’s a lovely option if you want something recognisably nautical without going too novelty-heavy. The design feels very summer cottage, in the nicest possible way.

Seaside Style

This quilt proves beach-inspired doesn’t have to mean navy and tan. It uses starfish, beach glass, and seashell prints, which gives it a softer, more decorative look. It’s a great pick for anyone who likes coastal themes with a more feminine or shabby-chic palette.

Oceanside Downloadable PDF Quilt Pattern

This pattern features adorable boats on pieced blocks, and that’s exactly why it stands out. It has a sweet summery look, but the finished quilt still feels structured and clean rather than novelty-driven. This is the sort of pattern I’d choose for a beach house guest room or a summer lap quilt.

Sail Quilt Pattern

This pattern is all about floating sailboats and calm marina energy. It has a more traditional quilt-shop look than some of the modern coastal designs, which will suit readers who like timeless patchwork with a themed twist. It would be especially pretty in crisp blues, reds, and low-volume whites.

Surf’s Up Downloadable PDF Quilt Pattern

This one is a fun smaller project with two nautical designs and a finished size that makes it nice for wall decor or a seasonal throw. It feels cheerful and summery without requiring a huge commitment of time or fabric. A good option if you want beach-house style in a more manageable project.

Whale Watching Quilt Pattern

Elizabeth Hartman patterns always have that instantly recognisable modern-cute style, and this whale quilt is no exception. It comes in small and large quilt sizes, which makes it flexible depending on whether you want a feature piece or something more substantial. It’s ideal for anyone who loves ocean themes but prefers bold, graphic patchwork.

Nautical Quilt Pattern: Sailboat & Anchor Blocks

This Etsy pattern is a great find if you like traditionally pieced blocks and want a proper nautical mix rather than just one motif repeated over and over. The four fun and easy blocks with 12-inch finished sizes make it feel approachable for confident beginners. It would work well as a sampler, a wall quilt, or a themed baby quilt.

Sail Boat PDF Quilt Pattern “Willoughby Bay”

This one has a really sweet nursery-and-seaside feel, with sailboats and waves worked into the design. It suits a child’s room or any space where you want a nautical feel without making the room look too themed. It’s charming without trying too hard.

Beach Hut FPP Quilt Block PDF Pattern

Beach huts are one of those coastal motifs that instantly make a project feel like summer. This Etsy find is foundation pieced, so it’s better for quilters who like a bit of precision and don’t mind a more detailed block. It would be gorgeous as a mini quilt, cushion front, or grouped into a whole row of seaside cottages.

Coastal Quilt Pattern

This is a nice choice for anyone who wants a beachy look without obvious anchors or sailboats. It feels more mood-board coastal than theme room, which I know a lot of quilters prefer. A good pick if you want the seaside feeling in a softer, more flexible way.

Sea Turtle Quilt Pattern in 3 Sizes

Sea turtles are such an easy win for coastal quilting because they feel decorative and ocean-inspired without being too seasonal. This Etsy pattern comes in three sizes and is beginner friendly, which makes it especially useful for newer quilters wanting a statement motif. This would make an adorable beach-house wall quilt or a kid’s room feature.

Beach Crab Quilt Block Pattern PDF

This crab block is a fun way to bring in a more playful beach theme. It includes multiple finished block sizes, which makes it handy for everything from mug rugs to pillows to larger novelty quilts. It’s a good reminder that coastal quilts don’t always have to be sailboats and stripes.

Nautical and beach quilts are such a nice category because they can go in so many directions. You can make them polished and traditional, bright and kid-friendly, or soft and coastal enough to blend into everyday decor. And unlike some novelty themes, seaside quilting doesn’t really date itself if you keep the colours and prints thoughtful.

For natural follow-on reading on your own site, I’d link readers through to 40 Fish Quilt and Block Patterns, Fish Quilt Block Tutorial, and Get on Island Time with This Relaxing Quilt Booklet. That gives you a nice bridge into ocean animals, tropical themes, and other coastal-style projects without repeating yourself.
