Emi made an alphabet quilt using Japanese Hiragana. She said many Japanese mothers will use this type of quilt as a learning tool for their children. I learned something from Emi. Japanese falls into 3 general categories – Hiragana (50 characters), Katakana (50 characters), and Kanji (thousands of characters similar to Chinese). A quilt using the Kanji alphabet would be a challenge. See more photos of her clever quilt at Emi Shimosato.

Emi,
Did you keep the patterns for hiragana alphabet quilt. I have a young man I work with who is learning Japanese in college. I would love to surprise him with a quilt. I know I would not be able to copy them myself.
I was so excited to come across your quilt!
