This tiny work of art is more than just a pretty textile. It will sit on the lap of a dementia patient as a soothing sensory tool. Michele Bilyeu, from With Heart and Hands, came to making these quilts in response to her mother’s struggles with Alzheimer’s. She explains,
I saw the increasing distractions, the fidgeting, the inability to stay calm and centered and always sought a multitude of ways to keep her engaged, happy, content, and even busy.

This is such an amazing place to find just the right thing that you can make for Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients and also for those in wheelchairs, those with Autisim etc. Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention! You rock Scarlett! I know there are many Veterans in the Veterans Homes who suffer from these damaging diseases. What a great way to make their lives better.

Barbara,
So good to hear from you. And thanks for the kudos. Just when I think I know everything there is to know about quilting, I stumble upon something new. I love my job and I love all the generous quilters who share their know-how. –Warmly, Scarlett
