This quilt, In Motion, shows a clever use of half-square triangles. It’s from the book Modern Neutrals by Amy Ellis, who admits on her blog this is a personal favorite.

I’m starting something new here at Quilting at Craft Gossip. Every week, I’m going to nominate a best photographed quilt. I wish I lived closer to Portland, Oregon ’cause I’d love to attend Collaborative Improv Quilting, a workshop offered at PNCA (Northwest College of Art). Here’s the course description:

In this two-day workshop, students explore patchwork quilts as architectural interventions. The class will learn about using new improvisational techniques and materials, including deconstructed clothing and recycled fabric, to make individual patchworking adventures. We will examine how using different mediums including photography and sound to engage your audience. The class will create a collaborate piece and install it in a public venue.Students must bring their own sewing machine.

What a sweet way to highlight little one’s handprints – pillows with two bouquets on a quilted ground finished with ruffles. Leena of Creative Instincts put the blue lace she received in a swap to good use in this hand quilted mat she refers to as the royal rug. I see why, her color and texture choices have a luxurious, Bohemian feel. Of the project she says,

All I planned was an assorted variety of fabric including velvet, brasso, upholstery fabric, synthetic material, cotton and embroidered cotton fabric.

So fresh. Check out Cintia’s (My Poppet) rainbow-hued table runner she made from hexagons. She says she pieced those hexies together using a running stitch and whip stitch, whichever she was in the mood to do. That’s my kind of sewer! The Summer Breeze quilt was part of Mo Bedell’s booth during Spring Quilt Market in Portland.

Before you read this post I have to admit, I didn’t know what Margie of NannyNotes2U meant when her supply list called for glass paper. So, here you go. Glass paper = sand paper. Who knew! Well, Google did. Now, back to the crafty goodness. Margie shares on her blog, her way to get no-slip cutting of half square triangles from fabric squares. She made herself a pretty sand paper mat.
