Sue Spargo visits top quilt shops

Folk art quilter and teacher Sue Spargo talks about her recent trip to quilt shops The Rabbit’s Lair and Yellowbird Art where she taught her Altered Texture class. Go here to see some student work. Another small fabric shop gone

This afternoon during a Sunday afternoon drive to Greenwood (population around 7000), I noticed this For Sale sign on what used to be a fabric store. I had visited there once and had admired the 1800s building that housed the shop.

I stopped the car and snapped some photos. Check out the beautiful wooden doors. Next I walked to the side of the shop where someone had painted a couple of quilts.

Have you ever gone to a sewing event and left behind a crucial item like your sewing machine foot control or something as basic as scissors? I have and blogger Insights From SewCalGal admitted to it in a recent post Checklist of items to bring to a retreat, class, workshop. I agree with one of her readers Beena who commented, I love going places…it’s the traveling that I can’t stand.

Sarah, formerly with Material Obsession in Sydney, Australia has gone off in a new direction as creative director of SEWN. This week she’s flown in the direction of the USA.

She’s in NYC where she and her husband once lived. I chose this fabric swatch called America the Beautiful by Connie Haley from Elizabeth’s Studio to celebrate her arrival yesterday.

Travel: Costa Rica Quilt Retreat

If you say the word go, my bags are packed. I love to travel and I love to quilt. So, for me, nothing is more appealing than destination quilting. I love cruising online looking for interesting places to go.

My fave so far is the Costa Rica Quilt Retreat. Not only do you get to quilt, you get to visit places like Poas Volcano and Jaco beach and if you add a few days onto your stay after the retreat there’s the tropical rainforest at Corcovado National Park.
