In case you haven’t heard it through Twitter or Facebook let me tell you what IBOL Guy is doing. He’s heading up a project called Iraqi Bundles of Love (IBOL) to send fabric and sewing items to Iraq before his unit leaves. Here is the reason he has come to sewing enthusiasts for this.

It is based upon my assessment that sewing fanatics and quilters tend to have stashes that far exceed their actual needs, and that sewing fanatics and quilters are passionate both about sewing / quilting, and about sharing with others.

Agreed. Those who would like to participate, go here to get details. You’ll need to scroll through several blog posts to get all the info about where to mail it, and how to make a bundle.

And be sure and read his bio About Me.

I visited the Empire Quilters website this morning and was totally blown away by their 2009 Raffle Quilt, shown here with permission. If all raffle quilts were this amazing the world would be a better place in terms of donations and aesthetics.

The New York based guild describes this quilt as their interpretation of the Dear Jane quilt made by Jane A. Stickle in 1863. They explained that Jane was made famous by living author Brenda Manges Papadakis in her book Dear Jane: The Two Hundred Twenty-Five Patterns from the 1863 Jane A. Stickle Quilt. You can visit Brenda online at Dear Jane to learn more about her as an author.

Fans of the Dear Jane quilt are making their own, called Baby Jane quilts. Check out a Baby Jane quilt along at That Quilt blog that started in January 2009. So far, followers have made 112 of the 225 blocks needed. Go here to see instructions. Hopefully these instructions will be archived.

Do you ever get stuck picking out a border color for your quilt top? I know I do, especially when the top has numerous colors and varied fabric styles – descriptive term super-scrappy comes to mind.

Image from Spring Water Designs

This border dilemna is most common in donation or club project quilts like the one Dawn describes in her blog Spring Water Designs.

The single color that I have found to work is BLACK.

I discoverd the black border as a unifying principle in the top I made for my club, see earlier post Spring Quilt Festival: My Entry.

I always admire the work quilters do in service of others. Go here to find out more about the Mountain Baby Quilts project. There’s good work going on in Maryland, USA. Keep on quilting!

This is my entry for Park City Girls first annual Online Spring Quilt Festival. Go here to see all entries. Time is running out (festival closes April 24th), so hurry and enter your own favorite quilt, I want to see it and hear the story behind it.

The story of this quilt. I seem destined to make quilts for those who have had house fires. The Kennel Club quilt was my second fire quilt, the first was for my twin sister Charlotte. It’s a nice one too, but sorry sis, not my favorite.

I actually took vacation time to finish this quilt. Have you ever done that? I was a proud member of the Kennel Club. The Kennel Club was created for the members (all women) to just have fun, that was the sole purpose. Once a month, the host had to come up with a game, anything from horseshoes to video scavenger hunts. It was great. Well, during this time a club member’s house burned to the ground, I mean nothing could be salvaged.

So in response to this horrible event, I had Kennel club members meet me at a local quilt store (only one had quilting experience), and I asked them to pick out fabrics they liked. They also had to pick out a dog that represented them best. I created the block for the recipient since this was going to be a surprise. Can you find her block? Her last name is Butts and her dog is showing its behind.

Also, I had my longarm folks Jubilee Quilted Creations (no online presence) quilt flames in her square. She loved it! As an aside, this is the quilt I was thinking of when I wrote my bio for this blog.

If you like this quilt pattern (which I think is great for club projects) you can find it in Q is for Quilt, by Diana McClun and Laura Nownes.
